This client had a problem convincing her landlord and property manager that her apartment was damp and prone to mould despite always using the bathroom extractor fan and range hood when cooking. She had rising damp, condensation and flaking and moudy paint on the bathroom ceiling. The issue was the landlord kept coming around when she complained and painting over the mould. After several years, her health began declining. Her medical doctor encouraged her to test her home and work out what was going on. This then allowed her to present the findings to both the landlord and the managing agent.

These tenants with a newborn child were worried about mould in several of their rooms. They tested their: bedroom, a cupboard, dining room (in 2 locations), study, kitchen and one of their other children's rooms + outdoor reference control. After they did the 8-sample test, we were able to comment that: "Strong evidence of contamination of the airspace in some areas, Identification of fungi having known mycotoxins detected, Suggest follow-up and/or further testing, Suggest more comprehensive on-site testing, Remediation works or other suitable interventions should be considered". This type of information is fundamental to get across to the rental property manager and landlord in order for the tenants to have the best chance to have the underlying problems that led to the mould in the first place fixed and the habitable space remediated professionally.

Testing Bedrooms to see if there is any evidence of mould exposure is a common theme for many of our customers. Here, the client tested his bedroom versus the outdoors. The results for the bedroom were very good (i.e. no evidence of mould). Sometimes our kits confirm that mould 'is not' the culprit. Either way, isn't it better to know for sure rather than just wondering if mould is the issue?
